10 Tips To Help Your Home Sell Quickly
So you’ve decided it’s time to move into a new home. The only thing standing in your way? Selling your current one! You need an offer, and you need it fast—so what can you do to help speed up the process?
When your home hits the market, it’s important to sell it quickly. After all, homes that sit on the market for months have a higher chance of receiving a low offer.
So to help you close the deal on your current home and move into your new one, follow these 10 tips below. With any luck, these tricks will help you appeal to buyers and mark your home “Sold” in no time!
Tip #1: Set The Right Listing Price
Settling on the perfect price for your home can be tricky. You don’t want to leave money on the table by underpricing your home, and you don’t want to scare buyers away by overpricing it either!
When it comes to setting the listing price for your home, you should always talk with your Realtor® first. They’ll be able to evaluate your home and compare it to similar homes in the area. That way, you can count on a fair, and appealing, listing price.
Tip #2: Clean, Clean, Clean
Clean everything—and we mean everything. Take the time to clean and declutter every part of your home. Dirt, clutter, and grime may cause potential buyers to think the home wasn’t well taken care of and walk away.
If potential buyers can see it, you should clean it. Clean the windows (inside and out), baseboards, cabinets, countertops, floors and more. If this level of cleaning is simply too much to do, hire a local, full-service cleaning company to do it for you. Otherwise, grab your favorite cleaning solution and some gloves and get to it!
Tip #3: Remove Any Personal Belongings
Buyers want to imagine their own family living in the home, which is why it’s important to remove any personal belongings from the home prior to showings. This may be family photos, childhood artwork, or any sort of personal mementos. Also, remove any religious or political decorations or pictures—this could turn buyers off.
By leaving your personal memorabilia out, you’re preventing buyers from seeing your home as their own. You want them to visualize themselves in the home without looking like you’re marking your territory!
Tip #4: Share Your Home On Social Media
If you’re active on social media, consider sharing your home’s listing with your friends. Not only will this help spread the word about your home, but your friends will also have the opportunity to share your home in their own network. The more visibility on your home, the better.
You can spread the word about your home in other ways, too. Tell your neighbors, family, co-workers, and friends. They may know someone who is looking for your specific home type, or to get into the neighborhood you are leaving. Your neighbors and friends are often the best way to share the news about your newly listed home. Keep them in the loop and encourage them to tell others too!
Tip #5: Become A Staging Pro
Did you know that staging your home has been shown to progress the selling process? In fact, a study by the Real Estate Staging Association showed that homes that were staged before listing received an offer in just 23 days on average. If that doesn’t show the power of staging, we don’t know what does!
Staging your home doesn’t have to cost an arm and a leg either. There are plenty of ways to stage your home for free! Get started by decluttering your home if you haven’t already. Pay special attention to the areas that are most likely to hold clutter like tabletops, shelves or racks.
Once the clutter is gone, take a look at how your furniture is arranged. Is there a different way to rearrange the furniture to make the room look bigger? Is there excess furniture you don’t need? If so, store it for now and rearrange the remaining furniture in an inviting way.
Next, set your dining room table and set out some fresh plants or flowers strategically around your home. The table settings will draw buyers in, and pops of color from the flowers are sure to be eye-catching and memorable.
Tip #6: Take High-Quality Photos
If you’re posting your home online—which is how many buyers search for homes these days—you need to have high-quality pictures. Be sure to take plenty of photos (at least 30) of the outside and inside of your home, that show the flow of your floorplan–pictures of toilets don’t sell homes! Do your best to make it look light and airy—dark or blurry photos may turn potential buyers away. And don’t forget to clean and stage your home first!

When a buyer spots a home online, chances are they will want to see it as soon as possible. Do your best to make yourself available for showings, especially on nights and weekends. Making potential buyers wait to see your home may cause them to look at other homes instead, risking your chance of a timely offer.

Also, touch up any scuffs or scratches that your walls may have accrued over the years. Marks like this are unappealing to buyers, so do your best to patch or repair any spots you notice.
Tip #9: Spruce Up Your Curb Appeal
First impressions are everything, especially when it comes to selling your home. If buyers don’t like the outside, they won’t be as tempted to see the inside. While you don’t have to go crazy with landscaping, a few simple changes can help spruce up the outside of your home and catch the eye of buyers.
Consider planting colorful flowers in a garden, around the mailbox, or in window planters—the options are practically endless. You can replace your mailbox, add new numbers to the outside of your home or repaint your front door. Think of a way to make your home stand out, and don’t be afraid to get creative with it!
