The Ultimate Spring To Do List For Every Raleigh Homeowner

If you’re getting ready to sell your home, your mind is probably all over the place! Searching for a new home is tough enough, but making sure your current home is open house ready is something else entirely.

That’s why we created this checklist! This home to-do list will help get your house ready to hit the market—or just spruce it up for spring.

Refresh Your Curb Appeal

The outside of your home is the first thing any guests—or buyers—will see, so make a good impression!

Chances are, winter storms have left some fallen limbs, twigs and leaves in your yard and garden. Start by cleaning these up! Now you can apply some fresh mulch and fertilizer to your yard and plants to get them healthy for spring.

Looking better already, right?

Next, plant some plants and flowers around your home to take your curb appeal to the next level. Having some bright, colorful flowers in a garden, or in window boxes, will make your home pop—and look more appealing to buyers!

Here’s a little inspiration for you!!

Declutter Your Living Areas

Throughout the year, especially in winter, it seems like things just start piling up. Before we know it, there’s little piles of clutter here and there—clutter everywhere!

Taking the time to declutter your home will make your house feel brand new again. Plus, no potential buyer wants to see clutter stuffed in a corner somewhere!

Decide what you need to keep and what can be thrown away. If you simply need more storage, there are plenty of things you can do around your home to create more storage space!

Add A Few Houseplants

Bring the freshness of spring inside your home, too! While you’re shopping for plants to spruce up your curb appeal, pick some to set inside your home.

There are many benefits to having houseplants. They can purify your air, and make it easier for you to breathe. Not to mention, they will add some beautiful color to your home.

Even a small bouquet of flowers on your dining room table might be enough to give buyers a “homey” feeling!

Fix Small Repairs

Without a doubt, there’s going to be a list of small fixes that need to be done around your home. Here are a few you should consider:

Repaint your walls

Okay so this might not be a “small” fix, but spring is the perfect time to consider repainting rooms or walls! Even painting an accent wall can make a room look brand new.

Consider painting your walls a neutral color. Not only will it make your space look bigger, but it will make your home much easier to sell!

Patch small scuffs and holes

If you’ve been living in your home for a while, there’s guaranteed to be bumps and scuffs somewhere. These fixes are normally pretty easy, and just require some putty and a little cover-up paint.

Spring is also the time many homeowners decide to redecorate! When taking down old pictures or paintings, be sure to putty over the holes left behind. This will save you (or potential buyers) time in the future.

Tighten loose handles

Who knows how many seasons that loose doorknob has been through. This spring, bust out your toolbox and tighten it up!

Check your kitchen and bathroom for loose handles, and tighten those up, too! Or it may be time to update your hardware. New knobs and pulls can give old furniture new life and change their look completely.

Clean, Clean, Clean

Time to put the “clean” in “spring cleaning”! If you’re like us, this is the part that you’re probably looking forward to the least. However, doing some deep cleaning on your home is crucial to getting it ready for spring.

Start off by cleaning the most-used parts of your home, like the kitchen, bathrooms, and bedrooms. Scrub counters and tile, leaving them sparkling! Mop, sweep, dust and vacuum each room—and don’t forget to clean the dust off of your ceiling fans!

Deep clean carpets

When vacuuming isn’t enough, consider giving your carpets a deep clean. Throughout the winter, you’ve probably accumulated some stubborn stains that won’t come out with regular cleaners. Not to mention the dust, bugs, pet dander and more that’ve been collecting.

If you’re getting your home ready to sell, you’ll definitely want to give your carpets some love. Dark spots on stains on your carpet could be a huge turn off to buyers, so make sure you treat your carpets properly!

Check Your Home For Damages

Unfortunately, there’s bound to be some damages around your home from winter. Hopefully, these damages are small—or not there at all—and easy to fix! Here are some places around your home you should check this spring:

Attic & Basement

Unwanted moisture may have found its way into your attic and basement. Check these areas for signs of mold or mildew, or conduct a “smell test”. If there is mold or mildew in your attic or basement, you’ll probably smell a musty odor.

If you think you have mold or mildew growing in your home, always consult a specialist!

Gutters

Fallen leaves and twigs may have found themselves lodged in your gutter, so be sure to check them thoroughly. You’ll need them working properly for all the spring showers to come!

Windows

Check your windows for cracks or leaks to make sure no cool air is getting out (or hot air is coming in!). You can do this by putting your hand up to the window and feeling for a draft.

If you notice cracks, don’t stress! These can typically be fixed with some caulk or tape.

However, it may be time to upgrade the windows in your home. Upgrading will be a huge selling point to potential buyers, so consider this investment if you’re thinking of putting your home on the market!

HVAC

Lastly, check your HVAC system. HVAC repairs can be expensive, but it’s an investment worth making! What’s the point of sealing cracks and replacing windows if your HVAC isn’t working properly?

Choosing to repair or upgrade your HVAC system—and making other necessary renovations— can increase the value of your home tremendously. Buyers will love knowing that they won’t have to move in to a home that needs a ton of repairs. So it’s a win for you, and a win for them!
