3 Summer Activities for a Fun Day in Raleigh by Spencer Properties Summer Intern — Kate

While summer may be winding down here in Raleigh, our city is still bustling with activities for you and your family! Raleigh has an array of fun things to do without having to go too far, and while it’s fun to travel and visit new places, sometimes you just need a day to do something exciting close by.

From waterparks to outdoor movies, Raleigh has you covered. For some entertaining things to do in the Raleigh area, keep on reading!

1. Enjoy Movies and Music Under the Stars

Raleigh Little Theater

Raleigh is full of outdoor music venues like the Red Hat Amphitheater and Walnut Creek Amphitheater where you can listen to your favorite artists while relaxing on the lawn (or in your seat). We may be biased, but summertime concerts are simply the best in Raleigh.

But music isn’t the only thing you can enjoy under the stars! Several places in Raleigh allow you to have a movie night outside in the warm summer air. The Raleigh Little Theater plays free movies on Thursdays at the Stephenson Amphitheater. On Fridays, stop by the Koka Booth Amphitheater for Movies by Moonlight. Kids under 12 get in free, while all other tickets are only five dollars!

If Thursday or Friday doesn’t work for you, no worries! The North Carolina Museum of Art’s Museum Park Theater has shows throughout the weekend. Members get in free and nonmember tickets are seven dollars. Keep in mind, most movies play on Sundays at 2 P.M., so plan accordingly if you’d like to enjoy their summer films series!

2. Plan a Day for the Kids at the Park

Pullen Park Train

Looking for something fun for the family? Look no further than Pullen Park! With fun rides like a carousel, kiddie boats, and a train, your kids are sure to enjoy every second of it.

But if rides aren’t their cup of tea, you can check out the pool, playground, and even an art center where you can learn to make jewelry, pottery, glass arts, paint, and more! Pullen Park is a fun place filled with engaging activities and is the perfect way to get the whole family outdoors.

3. Visit a Waterpark

The beach might be a little too far for your liking, but our waterparks are the next best thing! Raleigh is filled with splash pads, pools, and lakes to take the edge off and enjoy the warm sun and cool water.

The Falls Lake State Recreation Area is undeniably one of the most beautiful spots in Raleigh. Plus, it has five swimming beaches so there are plenty of options to cool you down in the summer heat.

If you have kids, you have to visit the Taylor Street Sprayground! This local favorite is fun for the whole family, and the perfect outdoor summer activity in Raleigh. Simply press the top of the orange pole and enjoy four minutes of waterpark fun.

Or, visit the Buffaloe Road Aquatic Center or Lake Johnson Pool for water slides, vortexes, spray grounds and more. Raleigh Aquatics has plenty of options and locations to meet your family’s needs.

Raleigh is a great place to spend your summer, and there’s even more to do than what’s on this list! Be sure to explore Raleigh on your own and enjoy our city’s lovely atmosphere and unique activities.
