Raleigh Running Clubs – Lisa Jackson

Raleigh Running Clubs – Lisa Jackson

I first started running 15 years ago while waiting for my children to complete their 5am swim practice so I could take them to school.  It seemed like the perfect time to fit my daily exercise into my crazy schedule.  I am no longer needed for carpool, but still enjoy my daily runs.  Instead of crack of dawn lopes alone, I’m now seeking a way to incorporate my love of running into a way to expand my social circle.  Running clubs for all abilities abound in the Raleigh area!

I started my search for a good fit with Fleet Feet Sports which has a shop in my North Raleigh neighborhood.  They sponsor several pub running clubs that combine exercise with hydration therapy.  nOg Run Club at 614 Glenwood Avenue has weekly social runs & organizes such events as the St Paddy’s Day Green 8K Run & Oktoberfest 8K which raises money for 14 different local charities. Big Boss Run Club meets at  7pm on Tuesday evenings during the spring & summer & Sundays in the winter at 1249 Wicker Drive for weekly runs & dinner afterwards from a rotating crew of food trucks.  Raleigh Brewing Run Club, 3709 Neil Street, meets Wednesday evenings at 6:30 & often invites shoe reps to attend.  They also sponsor themed runs such as the Zombie Run & Ugly Sweater Run.

I also am looking into joining the North Carolina Roadrunners Club which promotes participating in the community by offering training runs, leisurely jogs & walks, social events, races & volunteer opportunities.  For only a $25 individual membership fee, I can participate in all Club functions, receive an individualized training plan, get discounts on race entry fees and be eligible for discounts at shoe & clothing stores.  NCRC sponsors The Celebration 5K & Family Mile, American Tobacco Trail 10 Miler, a half-marathon & Run for the Roses.  $35 family memberships are also available.

The Triangle Turtles & Hares has 1638 “different pace” members & is free to join.  This group is a great for those new to running & veterans.  While many members clock 10-15 minute miles, those who prefer a faster clip will find plenty of running buddies.  Several of their meet-ups include a Brier Creek Night Run, Swift Creek Greenway Run, Crabtree Creek Trail Run & an Umstead Trail Walk/Run.  They are currently seeking sponsors, and I will definitely be recommending to Spencer Properties where I work as listing broker, to support an investment in their races.

I am excited to explore each of these clubs & make new friends while pounding the pavement!
