Wake County Public School System

Among the “Core Beliefs” of the Wake County Public School System, #1 on the list reads: “Every student is uniquely capable and deserves to be challenged and engaged in relevant, rigorous, and meaningful learning each day.” Further, the vision and mission states: “All Wake County Public School System students will be prepared to reach their full potential and lead productive lives in a complex and changing world. WCPSS will provide a relevant and engaging education and will graduate students who are collaborative, creative, effective communicators and critical thinkers.” We commend the local school system and continue to trust the dedicated principals, teachers and staff at our county public schools. Wake County School Calendars

Generally speaking, schools within Wake County adhere to either a traditional calendar or a year round calendar. The schools with a traditional calendar are in school from late August to early/mid June, with the occasional (small) breaks for holidays and teacher workdays. Year round calendars are different, in that they operate 12 months of the year. Most of them offer 4 tracks, and each of those tracks has a different calendar that they follow. Raleigh families who have gotten to know these tracks sometimes wonder how they ever survived without the regular (more lengthy) breaks. What they have in common is – the grand total of at least 180 days of instruction.
